Approved Prior Learning (APL)

This course is aimed at people who are currently working within the plumbing or gas industries but who have no formal qualifications.

The APL Course run by BGas enables trainees to gather evidence from current or past work situations and build a portfolio of experience. We then tailor a gas safety training courses around your current knowledge / experience in order to prepare you to take your Gas Assessments.

 

The length of this part of the course is determined by your existing knowledge and is discussed in an interview prior to commencing the course but as a guide it is usually between 1 and 3 weeks in centre training.

Beginners Gas Course

Our 14 week course has been running for more than seven years, and has helped well over 1000 trainees start employment within the gas industry.

This course is suited to candidates with little or no experience and will give you the necessary skills in order to take your basic gas assessments required to work within the industry.

The training course is split into 15 core competencies and candidates receive both practical and theory assessment. All trainees will complete a portfolio during their studies - and have access to comprehensive range of reference materials.

The Initial Assessment will cover CCN1 & MET1. This is the basic minimum to work within the gas industry and the minimum to work within the Meter exchange industry.

However, once qualified we also offer training to enable you to extend your certificate to work on various gas appliances.

The course is run full time over 14 weeks,

  • CC1             Gas safety Legislation
  • CC2             Gas Emergency Action and Procedures
  • CC3             Combustion
  • CC4             Ventilation
  • CC5             Installation of Pipe work & Fittings
  • CC6             Testing for soundness
  • CC7             Checking Meter Regulators
  • CC8             Identification of Unsafe Situations, Emergency Notices and warnings labels
  • CC9             The operation and positioning of emergency controls and valves
  • CC10             Checking and setting appliance gas safety devices and controls
  • CC11             The operation and checking of appliance gas safety devices and controls
  • CC12             Flueing standards
  • CC13             Flue Testing
  • CC14             Installation of Open, Balanced and Fan Assisted Flue Assemblies
  • CC15             Re-establish gas supply and re-light appliances.
